BEGIN WITH AWARENESS

Make a little space for stillness.

A gentle introduction to mindfulness, without pressure to achieve a special state or experience.

Begin simply. Return gently.

Mindfulness belongs within a wider practice of ethical conduct, steadiness, and wisdom. It is not an escape from difficulties or an instruction to force the mind blank.

Three small steps for everyday practice

  1. 01

    Find a comfortable posture

Sit on a chair or cushion without strain. Let your back be relaxed and your feet or legs feel supported; a cross-legged posture is not required.

  2. 02

    Notice a natural breath

Begin with just 3–5 minutes. Notice the sensations of breathing without forcing it. When the mind wanders, gently return your attention.

  3. 03

    Bring awareness into ordinary life

Try noticing the body while walking, washing a dish, or listening to someone. Wandering attention is not a failure; return patiently and practise consistently.
